Vincent Calmel
As a self-made photographer, Vincent Calmel discovers his passion for image and illustration thanks to the cinema. So much that from an early age, he thinks about becoming a movie director.
At 17, while still a student at a business school, he registers at a photography class, in order to learn more about technique and framing, before registering at the FEMIS in Paris.
Photography is there revealed to him, it becomes such a passion that he changes his professional objectives from film-maker to photographer.
He begins teaching himself and produces different types of personal works that allow him to deepen his knowledge of photography technique.
In 1994, his pictures draw the attention of the person in charge at the newspaper the "Tribune de Genève", and Vincent Calmel gets his first job as a junior. Having thus convinced the editor, he gets hired in 1995.
Consequently, his apprenticeship took place "on the job" rather than in a school, with everyday work for a local newspaper, such as reports, portraits, press conferences, etc, completing his self-taught technical approach.
In 1998, the "Tribune de Genève" hires him as a contracted photographer and several of his works will be selected and exhibited at the Swiss Press Photo as well as the International Festival of Photojournalism in Perpignan.
After working for 8 years at the Geneva newspaper, Vincent Calmel moves on to become independent and creates his own agency "Mitsu120". In 2004, he outfits a studio in Geneva and works henceforth for the publicity markets, for magazines and other institutions, all the while continuing his own personal works that are exhibited both in Switzerland and in France.
Since 2009, Vincent Calmel has been represented by "La Succursale" agency, wich allows international representation.
